This book about corruption

I read this book about corruption in my country and I can’t help wondering if it has this feature of drama: verisimilitude. I do not see the situation enacted in the book plausible. Can it not be a little more conplex like the present situation in the country? People don’t usually happen upon wealth suddenly and corrupt people don’t change or betray others over night. And just like that. He will be dealt with: blackmail,  withdrawal of supports,  kidnap or even death. Well, it is an effort at something just that the something can be made better. On Edge of the Brink by Ifechi Jane Odoe.

See God’s wonder!

Have you been inside the sky? Have you seen the space between the clouds? Have you seen the formations? The beauty up there will make you wonder. And when you are up in the sky, and you look down on earth, do you see those tiny little cars and houses like huts? Those are people’s mansions and high rise, but from up there, they are dwarfed! The cars begin to look like toy cars. This always makes me laugh.

But you know, God who is beyond the sun sees us far bigger than we see those houses, cars and people when we are in the sky. He sees us as giants, big people. The distance does not diminish how big and important we are. In fact, the distance exists only in our heart. If only we will draw closer to Him, we will not only see His wonder in the sky, we will see them in our lives too.

For want of something to do

I don’t like to be idle. I don’t like being bored too. I mean, who does? And for me, when I am bored, it gets my mind running to places they shouldn’t go, or connecting with people I shouldn’t connect with. So, now, I have decided! I am going to start reading again. I have started again actually. It keeps my mind busy, my head occupied and definitely keeps my grammar and expressions in check. 😉. Yeah! What do you like to do? What legit thing can you do to keep busy? Any ideas you should have activated but you have been postponing? Now is the time for activation. Don’t mind that it is taking forever for the idea to yield result. One step at a time. One step a day. So, no to boredom and wandering thoughts, yes to making a beauty out of nothing. 😘

TOO MUCH FOR NEW YEAR RESOLUTION

I just saw that I made a resolution to blog better in January this year, 2017. And that was the last post I made, or so I believe. I totally changed my focus, opened a new blog and also forgot about it. When the people you are crazy about make you do things, at a point, you will get cured of the madness and the thing you did because of them will become a chore. I believe I have been cured and my blogging became a chore. I still have the passion for my Nigerian novels though. Time to curl up on my couch at my me-time and read. I believe I will blog better next year. Please, do not make a face. Just keep your fingers crossed.

Happy New Year in advance.

LCCI urges FG to review Import duty on vehicles

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has advised the Federal Government to review import duty on vehicles in order to bring down the cost of transportation in the country. The LCCI Director General, Mr Muda Yusuf, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun, on Monday. He said that the current import duty on vehicles was aggravating the cost of transportation in the country.

According to him, there is the need for the Federal Government to urgently review the automotive policy in 2017 because of its adverse effects on the economy. “The current 70 per cent import duty on new cars is prohibitive and has put the price of new cars beyond the reach of most Nigerians and corporate organisations.

“Similarly, the present import duty of 35 per cent on trucks and buses has also negatively affected the cost of transportation in the economy.

“This is a period when importers are already grappling with sharp currency depreciation.’’

Yusuf said that if the Federal Government could review downward the import duty on Vehicles, it would enhance people’s standard of living and boost the economy.

16 arrested over Kardashian Paris robbery

French police arrested 16 people in the Paris region early Monday over the robbery of US reality TV star Kim Kardashian in Paris last year, police sources said.

Kardashian was tied up and robbed of jewellery worth around nine million euros ($9.5 million) when a gang of armed and masked men burst into the luxury Paris residence where she was staying during Fashion Week in October.

The 36-year-old, who is married to rap mogul Kanye West, finally broke her silence about the incident this weekend, saying she feared she was going to be killed by the robbers.

They’re going to shoot me in the back,” Kardashian, 36, tells her sisters in a promotional clip for the new season of her hit reality TV show.

“There’s no way out. It makes me so upset to think about it.

On Presidents and Plagiarism

So they said Nana Akufo-Addo plagiarised Clinton and Bush’s speeches. Just asking, is there supposed to be a bibliography in these inaugural speeches? Or is it that these presidents are too parrotty to think on their own and write their own speeches? Isn’t there something about quotes and all? Questions. This time, dont blame it on overzealous speech writers. Let presidents write their inaugural speeches themselves or aren’t those supposed to be their guiding principles and plans for they people who gave them the voice?

And What’s this News about President and Plagiarism

I set this notification for news headlines for The Guardian newspaper sometimes last year and trust me, I haven’t been reading it. But this morning, with the news of the the newly elected Ghana president plagiarising some part of George Bush 2001 inaugural speech,I am fully interested. But then, what’s the gist. Will get back to you on that.
